WILL WINS FOR EREBUS IN WA

Will Davison recorded one of the most satisfying wins of his career with a calculated drive in the final race of the Perth SuperSprint.

With Erebus Motorsport putting together a strong strategy for the #9 Mercedes-Benz, Davison chased down race leader Craig Lowndes to storm his way to an emotional victory on Sunday.

The win marked Davison's first victory for Erebus Motorsport since he joined the team at the start of 2014.

"This is very, very special. It's been a big move to come to Erebus so this is damned special," said Davison.

"It's very sweet because we are working really hard trying to get this package up to speed.

"It was a big outpouring of emotion when I crossed the line, I just couldn't believe it. I knew how much it would mean to the team and I was picturing them in the garage in the closing two laps."

Friday

  • Fine, sunny conditions

  • 19th quickest in morning session

  • 9th fastest in afternoon session

"It was very difficult to get a read," said Davison.

"The track has deteriorated in the last 12 months so there's very poor grip conditions out there, which is the same for everyone. Trying to make set-up changes in those conditions is very hard and it's easy to get lost.

"Fortunately we've got another practice in the morning. We've got some proven combination of set-ups we'd like to try at this type of track and then we can assess which way we go for qualifying."

Saturday

  • Will qualifies 9th for Race 7

  • Will qualifies 8th for Race 8

  • Will finishes 7th in Race 7

  • Will finishes 9th in Race 8

"It was obviously encouraging to back-up Tassie in qualifying with another two top ten qualifyings," said Davison.

"We're not quite at the right end of the top-10 but pretty solid and we definitely took a good step with the car overnight.

"I really enjoyed the races today, particularly the first one, just biding your time, driving the car smooth and trying to watch the car in front of you for where they are in trouble. I really enjoy that side of things, being patient, looking after the tyres and then pouncing late in the race and having that bit of rubber up your sleeve."

Sunday

  • Will qualifies 7th for Race 9

  • Will finishes 1st in Race 9, taking his first victory with Erebus Motorsport.

"This is a big deal for us, I won't lie. This level of sport, trying to get sponsorship and trying to really build a team is a big thing. It's a great responsibility I've had and money can't buy this sort of stuff for the crew and our motivation and the hunger to achieve it more.

"This is going to give our whole team and our whole operation a real pep up. It feels really special to get that for Betty.

"At the end of the day, she's very passionate and to go racing, she's doing it for love. She loves the sport and she's putting a lot into the sport so this feel very gratifying to give that back to her."

"It was one of those races where everything just came together. It was a very rewarding race."
