STRONG RUN FOR WILL AT QR

WILL DAVISON had a strong run of results aboard his Erebus Motorsport Mercedes Benz, at the latest V8 Supercar Championship weekend at Queensland Raceway.

At what is the team’s home circuit, Will raced to a pair of sevenths and a 10th across the three races, in a satisfying weekend after the frustrations of Townsville.

“We kept our heads with three clean races and three top-10s, and to be honest that’s what I wanted from the weekend,’’ Will Davison said.

“We should be rapt. We moved up in the championship and had good speed with varying set-ups.

“I think we learnt a lot on Friday – although we didn’t end up running that set-up for the weekend, it was actually really good that we did it because we were able to get back on track and go from what was being pretty ordinary on hard tyres to qualifying seventh on them this morning.

“So that shows the progress we are now making.”

FRIDAY
  • Foggy start, clears to fine weather
  • Co-driver session starts day, Alex Davison turns laps
  • 3rd fastest in Practice 1, on soft tyres
  • 9th fastest in Practice 2, on soft tyres
“It was a bit of an interesting test. We knew we came here with quite a different package than what we’ve run in the past. It was a very different feeling car so we need to learn how to tune it in that window. We were feeling quite good after that first session, albeit running our soft tyres quite early.

“Generally I think the conclusion from the day was that the car was reasonably well balanced and quite fast on a soft tyre but not where we need to be on the hard tyre. Already we have made a compromise for tomorrow morning where we can have something that’s good on both.’’

SATURDAY
  • Will 5th fastest in Practice 3
  • Will qualifies 14th for Race 18
  • Will qualifies 9th for Race 19
  • Will finishes 10th in Race 18
  • Will finishes 7th in Race 19
“It was a good day, good fun racing. The last few events we haven’t been having clean runs, so just to have a couple of top-10s today really bodes well for tomorrow, where strategy will really come into play.

“Again, we seemed quite good at the end of the stints like Perth, so with a 200km race tomorrow, a pretty fast car and good tyre life, it’s all to play for.

“We had a clutch drama in the first race and I fell back to 17th but we were able to race forward which is always fun. Hopefully tomorrow we can play our cards right and anything’s possible.”

SUNDAY
  • Will qualifies 7th for Race 20
  • Will finishes 7th in Race 20
“During the race, our outright speed was pretty good and our tyre life was exceptional again, so we had a good race car. It was just a little unfortunate that we lost a lot of time in the pits behind David Wall and then I got stuck in the pack. We lost so much time but we had the car to be able to get back through.

“Definitely a top-5 went begging today, so I’m a little bit disappointed about that but all-in-all I’m very encouraged we had a clean weekend, not a scratch on the car and always generally moving forward in every race, passing cars which was a lot of fun.’’
