WILL LEFT WONDERING AFTER SANDOWN

IT WAS a case of what might have been for Will Davison and co-driver Alex Davison at the Sandown 500 on Sunday.

Sharing the #9 Erebus Motorsport Mercedes Benz, the Davison brothers looked on track for a top result in the Enduro Cup opener, before mechanical dramas late in the day thwarted their hopes of success.

“It was certainly a disappointing end to what was looking to be a very promising race for us,” said Will.

“We had come so far over the weekend and the whole team had worked so hard. These things happen though. No one is immune.

“We’ll take the good and press on to Bathurst now.”

FRIDAY
  • Will 20th fastest in main driver 1st session
  • Co-driver Alex Davison 16th fastest in 2nd session
  • Alex 21stth fastest in 3rd session of the day
“It’s good to be back on track and to give Alex some more miles in the car,” said Will.

“We’ve got a little bit of work to do, but I’m confident we’ll be on top of things by Sunday.

SATURDAY
  • The #9 Mercedes finishes the final practice session 17th fastest.
  • Will qualifies 17th in Qualifying
  • Alex finishes 13th in Qualifying Race 1
  • Will finishes 8th in Qualifying Race 2
“We had a pretty good day today. We made some solid ground with the car and it feels good. Alex was great, the team was great and we’re in a good position to start tomorrow."

"It’s a long race so we’ll just press on and hopefully a few things fall out way."

SUNDAY
  • Alex starts the 161 lap enduro
  • #9 Mercedes runs as high as fourth before a mechanical issue sent the car to the garage.
  • Despite getting back on track, the delay in the repairs saw Will finish 23rd
“I really am gutted for the whole Erebus team. We were having a great race and could have even been on for top five finish.”

“Alex did an amazing job and the whole team really put in a huge effort. It was a very unfortunate situation in last pitstop that put us in the garage and the team did well to get me back out but we all deserved a better result today.”
