WILL'S WINTON WEEKEND

Promising pace went unrewarded for Will Davison at Winton on the weekend, in the latest round of the V8 Supercar Championship.

Will’s Tekno Commodore had the speed to be a contender across both races 10 and 11 of the series, but the dice didn’t roll his way either day.

“Not sure what happened today (Sunday), to be honest. I have no idea why we ended up so far back, we just got the strategy wrong and that, combined with slow pitstops, put me down the back,” Will Davison said.

“We’re going to have a long look at what happened with the strategy & the pitstops.”

FRIDAY
  • Sunny, mild conditions
  • 25th in Practice 1
  • 25th in Practice 2

“The new track surface has meant finding a setup that works on the fresh surface and I think we went the wrong way when we changed the car for session two. It just wasn’t happy and I couldn’t get any speed out of it. We’ll digest the data tonight and find a direction for tomorrow.”

SATURDAY
  • Will 11th in final practice
  • Will qualifies 7th for Race 10
  • Will finishes 6th in Race 10

“Bit disappointing. The car was fast and I think our strategy was right, but we lost six seconds in the pits and that cost a certain podium and possibly a win. I clipped a wheel on the way into the (pit) stop which didn’t help, but I am not sure what else happened. At least the car was fast.”

SUNDAY
  • Will qualifies 9th for Race 11
  • Will finishes 17th in Race 11

“That certainly wasn’t an expected result today. The car wasn’t great, I think something may have been bent from my clash with Jamie (Whincup) but it was way better than 17th … we were racing the guys inside the top six early on and should have finished around the middle of the 10.”
