STRONG WEEKEND IN DARWIN

WILL DAVISON enjoyed a strong weekend at Darwin’s Hidden Valley track to consolidate his top six position in the 2016 V8 Supercar Championship.

In an action packed weekend, Will’s STIX Commodore was consistently a front runner, unluckily missing out of a podium on Saturday after qualifying third, and then recovering from a frustrating early race to again finish a storming fourth on Sunday.

“It’s great to put two good days together, back to back,” Will Davison said.

“We’ve been looking for that consistency all year and this weekend was a step in the right direction. I’m wrapped with that, I really enjoyed it.”

FRIDAY

  • Two practice sessions in warm conditions
  • 13th in Practice 1
  • 23rd fastest in Practice 2

“Unfortunately I didn’t get out at the end on new tyres. We seemed to be pretty solid otherwise, so we should be there or thereabouts. I was ahead of Jamie (Whincup) and Shane (Van Gisbergen) before they put on new tyres, and they’re at the front, so it looks promising.”

SATURDAY

  • Will 9th fastest in Practice 3
  • Will qualifies 3rd for Race 12
  • Will finishes 4th in Race 12

“Unfortunately a podium went begging today. Track position is king here but we gave away too much in not stopping earlier. Also, the car wasn’t as good in race trim as it was in qualifying, so we didn’t really have the pace to win it but a podium was definitely on.”

SUNDAY

  • Will qualifies 12th for Race 13
  • Great strategy, strong drive delivers 4th in Race 13
  • Consolidates 6th in Championship

“Crazy race. I made a great start and went from 12th to 6th but then had to stack with all that pitlane craziness, and it dropped down the back again. I was gutted.

“We were pretty brave on our strategy calls and pitted (for the final time) with a long way to go, so I had guys behind (me) with much younger tyres and I just had to weather the storm. My thing gets better as the fuel burns off, so I was able to get away (from the pack behind) but just didn’t have enough to get onto the podium. It was a pretty good result in the end.”
