WILL WINS BATHURST 1000

WILL DAVISON and Jon Webb drove a storming race to win the Bathurst 1000 aboard the STIX Tekno Commodore on the weekend.

In a nail biting finish, Will held off Shane Van Gisbergen to score his second victory in Australia’s premier motor race, in his first Bathurst for the Tekno team.

“That was a pretty amazing day,” Will said in the victory press conference.

“That whole last stint there was lots of chat (on the radio) about saving fuel and I did what I could, while still holding off Shane. Even so, the engine coughed (from low fuel) as I crossed the finish line.”

THURSDAY
  • Will 17th in Practice 1
  • Co-driver Jon Webb 21st in Practice 2
  • Will 8th fastest in Practice 3
“I am relieved to have finished the day on a solid note. We really struggled in the first two sessions with a different setup but made big changes for the last session and the car was much more comfortable. We are in the ball park now, both of us are much happier.”

FRIDAY
  • Will 11th in Practice 5
  • Will qualifies 17th for Bathurst 1000
“We had a good car Friday but lost the balance today for some reason. I had some brake issues too but the major issue in qualifying was the balance, and we were losing a lot of time in a straight line too. Disappointing but now we will work on having a great racecar.”

SATURDAY
  • Will 5th fastest in final practice
“Today was about finding the right race balance in the car for tomorrow. What you want is a comfortable car for the race. I think we are in good shape.”

SUNDAY
  • Will starts the race, Tekno Commodore moves quickly forward
  • Strong run gets the duo into the top 10 by lap 20
  • Clever strategy, fuel saving and great driving delivers a stunning victory
“I have dreamed of winning this race again since 2009. It’s amazing. The Championship is important but Bathurst is something else, I am stoked.”
