SOLID WEEKEND IN NEW ZEALAND

AT SUPERCARS latest encounter at the Pukekohe track in New Zealand, Will Davison had a solid weekend aboard the STIX Tekno Commodore.

Amid four short sharp sprint races, Will scored three top ten finishes to consolidate his fifth position in the 2016 Supercars Championship.

“We were in the mix all weekend but just didn’t have the ultimate pace to challenge for podiums,” Will Davison said.

“The car was decent all weekend and we tried hard to find that last little bit, but couldn’t quite unlock those last couple of tenths.”

FRIDAY
  • Wet track at start of Practice 1
  • Will 16th in Practice 1
  • Will 15th in Practice 2
  • Will 6th in Practice 3

“We had an electrical issue in the first two sessions, that we sorted for the final session. The track is very quick this year, it is very wild out there. The car feels nice though, we just need to work on a couple of little areas but nothing major. Lots of quick guys and cars, it’s a very fine line as to whether it hooks up for the lap or not. Super close but we are there or thereabouts. We just need to tune up a little in the final sector and hopefully get the tyres right for the qualifying lap.

SATURDAY
  • Will qualifies 12th for Race 24
  • Will qualifies 5th for Race 25
  • Will finishes 10th in Race 24
  • Will finishes 6th in Race 25

“Changes we made across the day made the car better sometimes and not as good other times … we were in the mix but not right at the pointy end.”

SUNDAY
  • Will qualifies 9th for Race 26
  • Will qualifies 7th for Race 27
  • Will finishes 8th in Race 26
  • Will finishes 13th in Race 27

“Pukekohe is such a tough place to pass. You get a lot of aero interference there so that when you get close to the car in front, you cook your brakes and your tyres. So you can’t stay close to the cars in front because of that, even if you’re quicker.
“We did what we could today."
