DOUBLE DUTY driving the 2-seater Formula 1 car for passenger rides and the Tekno Commodore in four Supercar races gave Will Davison plenty of laps at the weekend’s Australian Grand Prix meeting in Melbourne.

Being the year’s only non-championship round, Will took the opportunity to experiment with (chassis) setups in the Tekno Commodore, ahead of the next points scoring round in Tasmania in two weeks.

“We won in Tasmania last year, my first win for Tekno, and we had a really good car there, so I am looking forward to it. The miles we’ve done this weekend (in Melbourne) have been valuable in understanding the new tyre and trying a few things with that in mind.

“Tasmania has been good to us in the past, I hope it is again this year!”

  • One Supercar practice session only – 11th fastest
  • Race 1 qualifying – 11th
  • Race 2 qualifying – 12th
  • Race 3 qualifying – 10th
  • Race 4 qualifying – 13th

“We thought we’d have the pace to be inside the top ten but judging by the (time) gaps, others are finding more out of the (new) supersoft tyres (than we are). There’s a bunch of (other) front runners struggling as well, so we’ll need to look at the data and figure out how to get the best from the tyres. Hopefully we have a better race car than a qualifying car.”

  • Race 1, Will starts 11th, finishes 11th
  • Race 2, Will starts 12th, finishes 5th

“Better day today, no question. In the first race I got hit from pillar to post, it was all going on and very frustrating because I couldn’t get clear. I think I had a good car but I couldn’t get clear air.

“In race two it came together … I was able to get among the leaders and the car was good. We made forward progress through the race and it showed we aren’t too far away. Good way to end the day.”

  • Race 3, Will starts 10th, finishes 8th

“We tried something really different with the (chassis) front end to see if it’d set a direction for us, but I am not really sure. We were setting good lap times but I am not sure whether that was more the weather or track conditions, we need to do more running to be sure.”

  • Race 4, Will starts 13th, finishes 8th
  • Will finishes 6th overall for the weekend

“I had a decent run today. We really didn’t have the pace of those right at the front but we held our own inside the top ten and got a solid result for the weekend.”
