MULTI-CAR ACCIDENT ENDS WILLíS TASMANIAN WEEKEND

WILL DAVISON'S hopes of defending his first win for Tekno, in Tasmania in 2016, went up in a cloud of spray that triggered a multi-car accident just over a lap into Saturday’s first Virgin Australia Supercars Championship race.

The 12-car accident on the soaking wet Symmons Plains track destroyed Will’s Tekno Commodore and put him in hospital overnight, due to the effects of the 36-g impact.

“After our drama in qualifying we had to start at the back and with the wet conditions, I planned to be pretty cautious and pick my way forward as and when I could,” Will Davison explained.

“Unfortunately, on the second lap a bunch of guys got tangled in front of me in the wall of spray and that triggered a multi-car shunt that took out half the field, including me unfortunately.

“It was a big hit and I was in a lot of pain for the first day or so, but I am now starting to come good. I am hopeful we’ll be back in the repaired car at Phillip Island in two weeks.”

FRIDAY
  • Will 7th fastest in Practice 1
  • Will 5th fastest in Practice 2
“We’ve rolled out pretty good, we’re there or thereabouts. We didn’t have the best run at the end there and we’re still fifth, so that’s good. There’s more refinement to come but it’s encouraging.”

SATURDAY
  • Practice 3 starts wet, Will 3rd fastest
  • Will slides off in qualifying in the wet before the track dries
  • Starting 25th, Will makes up several spots in the wet conditions before being unable to avoid a multi-car accident ahead of him
  • Will injured, conveyed to hospital
“I’m pretty sore, it was a big hit. Basically I went left to avoid the accident and thought I’d got through, but Rick’s car came back across the road and I hit it very hard. I’m glad he’s okay but both cars are totalled.”
