STRONG WEEKEND IN THE WEST

WILL DAVISON kick-started his 2017 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship season in fine style at Perth’s Barbagallo Raceway on the weekend.

A top ten contender throughout, Will finished Saturday’s Race 7 in a solid eighth before going two better aboard the Woodstock Commodore in Sunday’s Race 8, holding onto fifth in a nail-biting finish.

“I think we maximised our race today,” a pleased Will Davison said on Sunday afternoon.

“The car was good, the team did a great job, and we weren’t that far away from the ultimate pace.

“It’s been a good weekend, just what we needed.”

FRIDAY

  • Will 12th fastest in 1st practice
  • Will 8th fastest in 2nd practice

“Had a few little gremlins with the car today but it ended up a reasonable day. The car was solid most of the day, we worked on race balance and then had a new tyre run at the end. It felt reasonably good but still a decent deficit to the top two. If we can qualify well we’ll feel we can have a couple of solid races. It seems solid but not spectacular but I think that’s our current car even at its best.”

SATURDAY

  • Will 16th fastest in Practice 3
  • Will qualifies 7th for Race 7
  • Will finishes 8th in Race 7

“Reasonable day, I was just glad to finish after all the dramas we’ve had this season. We didn’t quite have the tyre life we needed but we’ll learn from that, and use it tomorrow.”

SUNDAY

  • Will qualifies 8th for Race 8
  • Will finishes 5th in Race 8

“I was flat out the whole way, there was nothing left. My only real drama was (that) my feet were cooking … you always get lots of heat in the footwell but the last 30 laps I was using the sides of my feet, my toes … anything to stop my feet burning. I don’t know why (we had the problem), it’s something we’ll have to look at.”
