WILL DEFLATED AT QR

Two tyre failures put Will Davison’s Woodstock-Tekno Commodore out of the race in Sunday’s leg of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship at Queensland Raceway.

Although he avoided an accident on each occasion, the tyre failures were completely unexpected and the team chose to park the car rather than risk further damage.

“We have to investigate what happened. Both tyres failed without warning and we’d had no such issues the day before, so it’s a complete mystery … and obviously hugely disappointing,” Will Davison said.

On Saturday, an aggressive race strategy failed to deliver the expected result, leaving Will to finish 17th.

FRIDAY
  • John Webb does co-driver session
  • Will 8th fastest in Practice 1
  • Will 16th fastest in Practice 2
“It’s been a tough day. It started okay but went downhill in the last session. It’s a handful at the moment but we found some issues late, which means hopefully it’ll be better tomorrow. The field is very close so we need to find the right change.”

SATURDAY
  • Will 18th in Practice 3
  • Will qualifies 15th for Race 15
  • Will finishes 17th in Race 15
“I got punted a couple of times on the opening lap and that lost us a couple of spots, but the car felt quite good and I think at that stage we had good pace. But we made an aggressive strategy call by stopping early, and like the others who tried it, it didn’t really work for us. Disappointing but sometimes you have to roll the dice.”

SUNDAY

  • Will qualifies 11th for Race 16
  • Two tyre failures puts Will out
“It’s weird. Without any warning at all we had two sudden tyre failures and I was lucky not to have a big accident. And then we had the inside shoulder of another tyre start to overheat, so we parked the car because we didn’t know what the cause was. I’m gutted.”
