ROCKY START TO THE YEAR

Hi guys,

Well, it’s been a bit of a rocky start to the year for us!

Clipsal was very tough, with mechanical dramas really holding us back all across the weekend. We ended with one DNF, missing the second race entirely and settling for 19th in the final race.

It wasn't the way anyone wanted to start the year but we endeavoured to put it behind us and move on. With a few new changes for the car, we were really looking towards the Grand Prix as a great opportunity to pull everything together and get back on track before the second round of the Championship in Tasmania.

Unfortunately things didn't quite come together for us the way we had planned.

Qualifying was really important given the format we had to work with at the Grand Prix. The starting position of the second, third and fourth races were all determined by the finishing position of the race before them, so it was really important to get off to a good start with qualifying.

Things were looking good on Thursday in the lead up to the qualifying session.  We had two practice sessions where we finished third and eighth, and I was confident we had the car to carry that through.

But we had a couple of dramas when it really mattered during the session and it really hurt us. On one lap that was looking like it would put us in the front three rows, I made a mistake and ended that. On another good run I caught slower traffic in the last few corners and couldn't finish the lap the way I would have liked.

We ended up 16th on the grid for the first race and that really set the tone for the rest of the weekend.  It was very difficult picking up any places in the short races and our car definitely had more promise than we were able to show over the weekend. But that gives us great optimism heading into the Tassie round this weekend.

Tassie was a great event for us last year and with some of the gains we've found on the car, it should put us in even better stead. The whole game is moving forward but it’s certainly encouraging to know we've taken quite a big step for ourselves.

Tiny margins make huge differences now and we've got to all make sure we keep out chins up and keep working hard to make sure we can get the maximum from the car and really get our year started in Tassie.

Bring it on!

Will
